Released January 18, 2024
Starting next month, in January 2025, we will be starting a process to automatically migrate customer VPS to a new network provider and new hardware which we will own. This change will give us much greater flexibility in regards to hardware and sustainability, and overall service reliability. This new network will also be much closer to Manhattan which may benefit some customers who look for lower latency to downtown NYC. We also use this network, AS63018, in our Dallas location. Primary upstream networks are GlobalSecureLayer and Unitas (Internap) which will also provide excellent DDoS protection capabilities. Some customers in this location are still on older Ryzen 3000 series processors, those who are will benefit as they will eventually be moved to newer Ryzen 7000 series systems which provide around a 40-50% single core performance boost.
Unfortunately, this will require IP addresses on New Jersey VPS to be changed. This is unavoidable due to the extensive downtime it would require retaining IPs. When your server is migrated you will only experience da brief 1 to 5 minute downtime while your VPS is rebooted. The new IP address will be automatically configured in your operating system in most cases. If you installed your operating system originally using our automatic install options, your operating system will already have the qemu-guest-agent running which allows us to reconfigure networking automatically. At this time, migrations will be done at random over the next 1-2 months during overnight hours to reduce impact. If you run a critical service, you can contact us to schedule a migration and reserve an IP ahead of time. However it will not be possible to reserve an IP or complete a migration until the start of January, when our new setup is ready.
Sorry for any inconvenience this IP change may cause, but it's necessary to ensure the future reliability and performance of our service is kept to the quality that customers expect and that we want provide.
